KURU by Cretya: A New Destination Experience Blending Nature, Culinary, Culture and Entertainment in Bali

Bar and Restaurant Cafe travelling BALI

Bali’s dining scene continues to evolve, and the latest transformation comes with the rebranding of Cretya Lite Extension into KURU Restaurant. More than simply introducing a new name, KURU presents a fresh identity and a broader concept designed to bring together culinary, nature, culture and entertainment in one destination experience.

For invited guests, the rebranding event offered an early look at what KURU is set to become — a place where dining is not only about what is served on the table, but also about the atmosphere, the surroundings and the experience created around the food.

From Cretya Lite Extension to KURU

The decision to rebrand the former Cretya Lite Extension into KURU comes from a desire to build a stronger and fresher identity.

According to the KURU team, the change is not simply about changing the name. It represents a new direction and positioning, with KURU developing its own identity and offering a more immersive experience for guests.

The name KURU is inspired by Sanskrit philosophy and carries values associated with peace, balance and a more meaningful experience.

These values are reflected in the way KURU aims to welcome its guests — encouraging them to relax, enjoy their surroundings, connect with others and ultimately take home a memorable Bali experience.

More Than Just a Restaurant

KURU’s strongest proposition is its attempt to move beyond the conventional restaurant concept.

The restaurant combines nature, culinary, culture and entertainment, creating what the team describes as a destination experience.

This positioning makes KURU particularly relevant to today’s travellers who increasingly look for places where they can enjoy food while also experiencing the atmosphere and lifestyle of Bali.

The natural surroundings remain an important part of the experience, while hospitality and service quality continue to be maintained as part of the KURU identity.

A Grill-Focused Culinary Experience

KURU focuses on a grill-oriented culinary concept, with grilled dishes taking centre stage.

One of the highlights is the Grilled Smoked Brisket, featuring a distinctive smoky character that has become one of the signature dishes at KURU.

But what caught our attention during the rebranding event was not only the food itself.

Live Grilling Brings the Kitchen Outdoors

One of the first things that caught the attention of Ms. Dudu, representing Travelling BALI Media, upon arriving at KURU was the outdoor live cooking experience.

Instead of keeping the cooking process completely behind the kitchen doors, guests can watch the chef prepare and grill the food directly.

The interactive approach gives dining a more engaging character. Guests can see the preparation, watch the grilling process and enjoy the aroma before the food arrives on their table.

It is a simple idea, but one that makes the dining experience feel more personal.

A Comfortable Space for Different Occasions

KURU is not a particularly large venue, which gives the restaurant a more intimate atmosphere.

The dining area is designed to feel modern and relaxed, making it suitable for casual dining, family time or spending quality time with friends.

The rebranding event itself was attended by a limited number of invited guests, partly because of the venue’s size. Even so, the atmosphere was lively enough to create a warm and welcoming evening.

For guests arriving by vehicle, parking is provided in the Central Park area.

For those travelling from Jimbaran, the journey can take around one hour and 45 minutes by motorcycle, depending on traffic and road conditions. But for travellers who enjoy combining dining with a destination experience, the journey can become part of the adventure.

A New Chapter for KURU

What remains unchanged from the previous concept is the appreciation of Bali’s natural beauty, hospitality, service and the pleasure of experiencing the island.

What changes is the way these elements are brought together.

KURU wants guests to do more than simply come for a meal. The idea is to create a place where visitors can relax, enjoy, connect and create memories.

Its target audience includes both local and international travellers, particularly those looking for culinary experiences combined with nature, lifestyle and a sense of place.

With its new identity, KURU is positioning itself as a destination where food becomes part of a larger Bali experience.

And perhaps that is the most interesting part of the rebranding: KURU is not asking guests to simply come and eat. It is inviting them to stay, experience and enjoy Bali in a different way.

Travelling BALI Media’s Take

For Travelling BALI Media, the outdoor live grilling was one of the most interesting elements of the new KURU concept. Watching the chef prepare the food directly in front of guests adds interaction to the dining experience and makes the restaurant feel less formal.

KURU may not be the biggest dining venue, but its strength appears to lie in bringing several elements together — grill, nature, atmosphere and entertainment — in a setting designed for people who want more than just a meal.

As Bali’s tourism and culinary landscape continues to evolve, KURU represents another example of how restaurants are becoming destinations in their own right
